Below write one way how you can improve what your doing. (recognizing your faults is the first step to bettering yourself).

ERIKS TIME MANAGEMENT! Your dedication is commendable, but you need to watch your time.

"Killing Time", make sure your crowd management is improving through respect and not just shushing. The actors should want to be quiet and listen. (I understand it is hard now because of break, but don't send a bad precedent).

When you are in the blackbox make sure you keep an eye on your time. Make sure you are ready to leave and make a smooth transition.

  1. I can improve costuming by being more organized and on task, writing lists, starting to actually look for costumes, etc.

I think I can work with Chan and Erin. I saw the scene today and it was not bad at all but it seemed like they were just holding back if you know what I mean. Like what Houston was talking about in class I COMPLETELY understand now. I'm not sure if that's because I am looking for it now and that's all I can see, or if it's really there...or I'm crazy, either is probable. Or Tate can do this stuff for me. I'll ask her before...of course. Enjoy Mr. Moore.

  2. Today Nate and I went over why we are playing games with them. we told them about character development, improv skills and stepping out of their comfort zones. We played a scenario game today in which we put the actors in groups and gave them scenarios they had to act out in character. Another game we played was airplane pilot, where one person is the pilot and everyone comes up one at a time and has to come up with a problem. We also talked about people broadening their characters and not just going for the easiest thing. For example the girls who are playing students who may not have many lines should be more spontaneous and creative with their characters because they have so little guidelines. anyways other than that, things are going really well, Nate and i work awesome together! if anyone has any character development games please let me know!

  3. Here are some jokes for you, Mr. Moore.

Q: What's the most dangerous thing in your average community theatre?
A: An actor with a power tool. Or an angry techie with a power tool.

Q: What do directors do with dead actors?
    A: Make them chorus members.

Q: How many actors does it take to screw in a light bulb?
    A: What's the light bulb's motivation?

As a suggestion for an activity for actors not acting at the moment, meditation would be a good idea. Just go to a quiet room and play something like Chakra Chants or nothing at all. Sometimes relaxing can go a long way.

Also to keep the actors quiet in the room, it may be a good idea to flat out tell them: be quiet, do your homework, follow the script, but no talking

  4. Also, I could improve by cheering up?

  5. I think something that I could improve on is communication or interpretation almost, I notice a lot of the time when I am trying to portray and idea etc... when I explain it, I myself cannot understand what I am saying because it is all jumbled etc... So, I most certaintly have to work on that sense of communication! And I am sure a bunch of other stuff needs improvement on too, or I am just perfect...but perfection is overrated.

As for Killing Time, I think it was awesome that we actually started to chereograph a fight scene...its going to be awesome!! Also, I think tomorrow maybe instead of so many games we could have people off and memorizing their lines when not on stage?! Yes, I think that would be efficent use of their time, even though they seem to be really liking the games!!

  6. It was nice to see the last 5 minutes of rehearsal today. The games looked fun. Some actors need a little of guidance with those (Rahul) like to not curse for no reason and stuff. Like the attitude. Keep it up.

  8. I think I could improve my communication skills. I actually think that's something that all of the directors can improve. A lot of times the actors are completely confused because the three of us are all throwing contradictory things at them. I think we all need to work on discussing certain things beforehand to keep our actors from getting so overwhelmed.

  9. Something that I can do to improve, is just try to get more involved in the entire process. Even though I have track, I should stil be making an attempt to get involved, which I have not really been doing. Also, I have a suggestion to solve the concentration problem, everytime you have to shush someone, everyone does 10 or 15 pushups. Or you could pull them aside and talk to them, I guess.

  10. Yes! Keep up the good posts and self reflection while listening to Chakra Chants!

Alison, I think your last joke was the strongest! Nicely done.

  11. I think something I can improve upon is group control. I've done a lot of one on one work and small group work and my cast is so small games usually don't go over well with them besides a few staple ones (trust walks, Honey i love you.., etc). I plan on using the acting games book provided by Mrs. Houston to find some better activities. Because, some of my group has a lot of idle time. And usually idle time usually leads to bad decisions, trouble, etc.

  12. Since I am one of the props masters, I could give everybody an assignment to bring in certain items (props) before spring break ends IF POSSIBLE! If they can't get a specific item we ask someone else who is able to get ahold of that specific item. I also was thinking of helping Justin with Tech crew? Is that ok?

  13. Well, it looks like my weakness is spelled out up there. Time management. I will work on that. (I feel the best way to fix this would be with preparatory planning and communication with the other directors). Other then that, things are going quite smoothly. For all those who wanted me to post the games that worked (amazingly)for our group, here you go:

    Here He Is Now
Two contestants discuss quirks of the other two contestants, which they must show when they enter.

    Hey you down there
One contestant narrates a public information video whilst others act it out.

    Hands Through/Helping Hands
Two contestants act out a scene but one has his hands provided by a third contestant.

If You Know What I Mean
Contestants perform a scene speaking in (or inventing) euphemisms.

They loved "If you know what I mean" and "Helping Hands". Also, I realize these descriptions are minuscule, but I don't want to take up the whole comment section, and therefore if any of you want more explanation or clarification, I can talk to you in class or after school.

  14. p.s. If we took Luke's suggestion we would end up with a really buff cast.

  17. And one way I could improve myself is to stop hating teenagers so much this week... :) And stop groaning in disgust. And stop using double negatives in sentences and instructions. And a lot of other things...so maybe listing one thing wasn't really a good plan...now I am just thinking of how inept I am as a person...

  18. @Eriks- I think it's on Pacific time.

  19. @ Ms. Houston:
Thanks. And also, don't be so hard on yourself. (For the record, I'm quite fond of your excessive use of double/triple negatives.)

  20. I still love you Ms. Houston ;)

  21. I love Ms. Houston to! I think we did great yesterday. We used our time wisely and were able to review and make critiques on everything we have done so far. I think what we will start doing rather from now on in addition to games, is give the actors time to review their lines and blocking.

  22. I have read all of the blogs! I understand them and feel that Killing Time is Killing it!!!!

  23. I love her as well! And yea today was great and we used our time pretty well considering how many people we had and also me and Kate kept the people who weren't so busy; busy with games relative to their characters.
